Winter Melon

(Pronounce in Mandarin Pinyin: Dong Gua)
The light green skin is covered with waxy coating and will form a white powder when ripe. The vine of this cold tolerant variety will spread. The waxy layer that forms over the ripe fruit protects the melon and allows for long storage periods. Occasionally, it is used to make fruit drink or sweet tonic which has a very distinctive taste.

Benefits: Winter melon is a good source of Vitamin B1, B2 and vitamin C, rich in beta carotene, calcium and so on. Helps clear the heat and toxin, promotes urination, reduce water retention, expels phlegm, stop cough, improves metabolism, reduce fats and etc.
