| Safflower refers to the threads of safflower
from Carthamus tinctorius plant. Sometimes
safflower serve as a substitute for saffron,
since they give a colour to the food. Commercially,
safflowers are frequently sold as "saffron"
as it is a purely visual resemblance. In China,
safflower is used as a medicinal herb to lower
the risk of heart disease and to treat menstrual
