Discovery of Chinese ancient
materia medica is my passion; perhaps it is
because of my grandpa. My sis and I never
met him since we were born. But mom always
tells us his story. Grandpa was born in Guangzhou
province; China, he then later came to Malaysia
in 1921. He was a Chinese herbalist who likes
to experience with herbs to recuperate health.
In 1953, he started a Chinese medicine's store
in Singapore and created a balm called "
Hu Gu Jing or |
Hou Gu Jing" which claimed had healing
properties on rheumatism, backache and kidney deficiency.
The balm was famous during his presence and the
unique herbal combination needs patience to produce,
as it has to decoct for about 10 days until the
liquid become thicken. Unfortunately, the recipe
was lost sooner my grandpa passed away. Even people
looked for it during that time, but when it loses,
it lost.

However, my grandpa story has embarked my sis
and my interest to explore more on it. We started
to attend course in KL Academy of TCM.
From the course, we get to know a lot of useful
information about how Chinese culture take good
care of health and beauty via combination of foods
and herbal medicine based on theory of TCM;
identify and usage of herbs, knowledge on Tuina,
acupuncture and etc. From this, we started to
experience with herbs; research on beauty yet
healthy recipes, creating our own concoctions
and this has become part of our life. We are happy
to share this out with others :)
In fact, the study of how to make good use of
common foods and herbal medicine to heal diseases,
preserve health and pro long one's life, which
known as medicinal food or Chinese
dietotheraphy has a long history in Chinese
culture more than 2000 years ago. Among the famous
Chinese ancient handed down rich knowledge medical
book such as "Ben Cao Gang Mu" and "Huang
Di Nei Jing" are still today's Chinese people
regimen and eating guide because it really contributed
to the health of the Chinese.
As we can see the recent emergency of various
diseases such as cardiovascular disease, depression
that arises from the daily tug and tussle at work
has taken the world by storm. Many of the diseases
are closely tie to the daily diet. For instance,
cardiovascular diseases, if we pay attention to
adjust our daily food and drink, the process of
arteriosclerosis can be greatly postponed or even
prevented. It can be seen that these is a close
relationship between diet and health.
In recent years, more and more people from other
countries are showing great interest in Chinese
things, and Chinese
dietotheraphy has attracted special attention.
Many foreigners have expressed their wish for
a more detailed and substantial introduction to
Chinese
dietotheraphy. Hence Medicinal
Cuisine is dedicated to show you the way
to a healthy living lifestyle by using natural
ingredients such as living foods and herbs in
a simple way to gain a beautiful life.
How and where do these
recipes come from?
We have researched and included some of
the popular medicinal recipes from ancient times
such as Ben Cao Gang Mu, Huang Di Nei
Jing and so on; info and recipes from the
course, our own concoctions and some even handed
down from the generation of my family. These recipes
are safe to use when similar ailments are present
for health. But it is highly recommended that
to consult the physician when using recipes to
avoid any contradiction to medicine that you are
taking because each body type require different
type of medicinal dish. For example, people with
heaty body constitution are encourage to take
foods that have cooling properties like cucumber,
barley, chrysanthemum and etc in order to balance
the body condition and vice versa. For more details,
kindly check it out at our Chinese
Dietotheraphy Section.
We are trying to dig out more and more recipes
and would like to share out all the info with
you. In this site, we have included recipes for
beauty promotion, illness prevention and therapeutic
diet recipes for your reference. We believe you
will benefit from them. We also welcome any of
your recommendations. Simply email us at info@medicinal-cuisine.com
