Cough:

The list of possible causes of cough is long and highly varied. In TCM, the common presentations are hot-wind cough, cold-wind cough, dry cough and lung yin defieciency cough.

a) Symptoms of Wind- Hot Cough ():
Heat in the lungs, headache, no chillines, sweating, sore throat, thirsty, yellow phlegm. Recommended to consume food or herbal medicine that reduces heat, phlegm and aids stop coughing

b) Symptoms of Wind-Cold Cough ():
Chillness without perspiration, headache, runny nose, thin white tongue fur, body temperature 38.5 celcius, irritation in throat, abdominal pain. Recommended to consume food or herbal medicine that can expels the cold and aids stop coughing.

c) Symptoms of Dry Cough():
Dry mouth, dry nose and dry lips, less phlegm, sticky phlegm, irritation in the chest and throat, yellow fur tongue. Recommended to consume food or herbal medicine that aids nourishing the lungs, intestine and stop coughing.

f) Symptoms of Lung Yin Deficiency ():
Dry tongue with thin or absent tongue coating, feel hot in the afternoon or evening, pain on coughing, night sweats, dry throat, thin body, low voice, insomnia, hunger, red cheeks, dry cough with no phlegm. Recommended to consume food or herbal medicine that aids nourishing the lungs.

Hot-Wind Cough: Lotus Pear Juice
Cold-Wind Cough: Perilla Tangerine Peel Drink
Dry Cough: Ghlenia Tendrilled Fritillaria
Lung Yin Deficiency Cough: Ophiogonis Solomon Herbal Tea
Hot-Wind Cough
1) Lotus Pear Juice
Serving Size: 1 Person
Ingredients : a) 200ml Fresh Lotus Root Juice ()LianOuZhi
    b) 200ml Fresh Pear Juice ()LiZhi
       
Method : 1) Combine well above ingredients and serve.

Benefits:
Suitable for people who suffer from hot-wind cough. It expels the wind -heat the in the body.

Note:
People suffering from slight coughs with phlegm should consume consistently.

 
Cold-Wind Cough
1) Perilla Tangerine peel Drink
Serving Size: 1 Person
Ingredients : a) 12g perilla leaf ()ZiSuYe
    b) 3g ballon flower root ()JieGeng
    c) 3g Tangerine peel ()ChenPi
    d) 3g Licorice Root ()GanCao
       
Method : 1) Rinse above ingredients.
    2) Place above ingredient into a pot with 500ml of water and bring to a boil. Turn low heat and cook for about 20 minutes.
    3) Strain and serve.

Benefits:
This drink is beneficial to people who suffer from cold -wind cough and afraid of chills.

Dry Cough
1) Ghlenia Tendrilled Fritillaria
Serving Size: 1 Person
Ingredients : a) 15g Ghlenia Root ()ShaShen
    b) 3g Tendrilled Fritillaria ()ChuanBeiMu
    c) 15g dried lily bulb ()BaiHe
       
       
Method : 1) Rinse above ingredients
    2) Place above ingredients into a pot with 500ml of water and bring to a boil. Turn low heat and cook for further 20 minutes.
    3) Add in honey bee sugar for a better taste and stir well. Strain for tea.

Benefits:
Ghlenia Root helps stop cough. Commonly use to treat dry mouth and throat. Whereas tendrilled fritilaria used to treat cough with yellow phlegm that is difficult to expectorate.

Lung Yin Deficiency Cough
1) Ophiogonis Solomon Herbal Tea
Serving Size: 1 Person
Ingredients : a) 15g Ophiopogonis Root()MaiDong
    b) 15g Solomon's Seal ()YuZhu
    c) 10g Codonopsis Root ()DangShen
    d) 10g Dried Liliy Bulb ()BaiHe
       
Seasoning : a) Some rock sugar ()BingTang
       
Method : 1) Rinse above ingredients
    2) Place above ingredients into a pot with 600ml of water and bring to a boil. Turn low heat and cook for further 20 minutes.
    3) Add in honey bee sugar for a better taste and stir well. Strain for tea.

Benefits:
Ophiopogonis root generates the fluids, moistens the instestine. Solomon's seal treat thirst, sensation of heat in the bone, intense hunger and etc. Codonophis roots strengthens the Qi, tonify the lungs and nourishes the fluids. Dried lily bulb treats sore throat, reduces dryness.
